what is the students' union?

at uni, a union is basically a student-led organisation - we're here to represent and look after you. we have offices in faraday on singleton campus and in the su building on bay campus. we also run jcsrebound and tafarn tawe – the student bars, costcutterroot – our healthy food store, root zero - our zero waste shop, fulton outfitters – the uni clothes shop, the campus nursery and the advice and support centre.

we’re a place to meet people, go for a drink, party the night away, relax with a coffee, get advice, join clubs and societies, get involved with volunteering, get your swansea branded clothing, and a whole lot more. along with your elected officers, we have a friendly staff team who are here to help you and make you feel right at home.

all swansea university students are automatically members of the students’ union and can enjoy all of our perks.

what role does nus play?

nus is the wider student movement – the national union of students. they exist to represent all students in the country. as a member of swansea students’ union, you’re also a part of nus too.

what’s an nus totum card? and where do i get one from?

nus totum cards are the famous student discount cards – you can use them on the high street and online to get fantastic savings on fashion, cinema, rail tickets and loads more.

for just £12, you’ll get all these discounts for a full year – after just a few savings, the card practically pays for itself.

you can order yours by either calling into the students’ union or if you want to start saving straight away, you can get one from the nus website.

students’ union full-time officers

full-time officers at the students’ union represent students when it comes to all things about university life.

every year as a student at swansea you will have the opportunity to stand for one of the full-time officer positions.

a democratic vote takes place every march and the full-time officers start their roles in the summer ready to tackle the new academic year in september.

it’s simple. if you are elected and you have yet to complete your degree, you can take a year out of your studies to do the job. if you are elected and you are in your final year of study at the time, you can stay in swansea for another year to do the job, lucky you!

the full-time officer team are the voice for students and take your feedback right back to the university and make sure something gets done about it.

keep an eye out on the students’ union facebook for information about the upcoming elections and how you can get involved.
